Washing machines can make the most annoying noise in the household, especially when they go into the spin mode. Some models are so bad that you can literally feel the house shaking when they are in operation! To cut down or eliminate the washing machine noise, here are some tools or aids that have proven to be very effective.
#1: Sound absorbing mats for washing machine
A fantastic way to reduce noise and vibration is via sound absorbing mats. We have talked about using sound absorbing mats for treadmill but this is not the only way to use them. You can use the same mats to absorb sound and vibration from washing machines as well. The best one to consider is Rubber Cal’s noise reduction mat. Although it is more costly, it has proven to be effective to reducing the amount of noise coming from treadmills.
#2: Use washing machine shock absorber pads
Another way is to use them as washing machine shock absorber pads that can reduce both sound and vibration from these machines. These can be purchased easily from the likes of Amazon. The best reviewed is this brand called the Vibration Solution with a product called Silent Feet. These washing machine anti vibration pads and are designed the noise and vibration coming from the machine. The secret behind its popularity is its polymer technology material, which performs much better than what the rest of the market has to offer.
The strength and durability on this thing is unbelievable. I personally test this on my washing machine and dryer stacked on top of each other. After 2 years, they are still performing well with no visible signs of being worn out.
There are 4 feets in one package. Two of them will be sticky while the other is removed. How you install is to use the two non sticky ones at the back first. Adjust them until you are happy with the position. Then, use the 2 sticky feet on the front. This will prevent the washing machine from sliding around and causing a racket.
One thing to note is that there is no different sizing for these absorber pads, which means they will fit more models of washing machine between than others. This explains why some reviewers on Amazon say these didn’t work. It is probably because the pads isn’t right. I know for sure Maytag washing machines are not a good fit so forget about buying these pads if you have one of these.
Protip: if your washing machine still vibrant a lot after the installation of these silent feet, try adding some weight at the top of the washing machine to prevent them from moving around so much.
Protio 2: You can use both the silent and the sound absorbing mat to ensure minimal noise coming from the machine. This double combo works wonder although they can be pricey when purchased together.
#3: Use less load
Most of the time, you will notice that the larger the load, the louder it gets. This is because the drum needs to exert more force to get the heavier load to spin and that creates a hell of a racket. If you are washing things like towels, try not to add any more stuff to the load. Alternatively, get a more powerful washing machine that can handle the heavier load so that you don’t have to spend so much washing laundry.
#4: Check the drum balancing
As mentioned above, the drum is the cause of all the noise. If you washing machine is not new, it is likely that the drum is either out of balance or the mounting bolts have been worn out. To check the later, you need to look under the drum and check for a large weight. Check that the weight’s mounting bolts are still not worn. If they are, then you need to arrange for a replacement.
The image below shows how it looks like. The cone shaped object is the drum and the four purple objects are the mounting bolts.
A noisy washing machine can be a real irriaiant for you and your neighbor. Hopefully, some of the methods described here can save you to cut down the noise to enjoy a quiet home.
